PRIVACY POLICY FOR RESIDENTS OF THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA (EEA)
Japan Development Service Co., Ltd. (JDS) is a Japanese company providing wide-ranging services, including the introduction of Japanese experts to overseas private enterprises, business assistance for overseas enterprises which do not have a branch office in Japan, studies and consultancy relating to ODA, translation/interpretation/documentation, and job placement.
As part of its activities, JDS cooperates closely with partner entities. The role of JDS differs in each context. In certain cases, JDS might cooperate with partner entities assisting refugees.
Processing of personal data
When sharing personal data with JDS (such as gender, age, nationality, family members, education, etc), including sensitive information like health situation, race, religion, reasons for flight, human rights violations (“Personal Data”), you should be aware of how JDS will handle such Personal Data and what your rights and duties are.
JDS may only collect and use (“process”) your Personal Data on basis of your consent, in order to carry out its activities.
JDS process Personal Data to the extent necessary for achieving the purpose and through lawful and proper manner. If JDS obtains Personal Data via third parties, JDS observes that the parties obtained such data through lawful and proper manner, and makes sure individuals’ rights, interests and privacy are not to be harmed.
JDS does not provide Personal Data to third parties without prior consent of the persons involved except in cases in which the provision of Personal Data is required by laws and regulations.
JDS takes security measures in conformity with laws and regulations for the prevention of leakage, loss, damage, unauthorized access/usage/destruction/alteration, and so forth.
You should know that all personal data you provide now and in the future is kept confidential. That means your data is stored securely by JDS and is only accessible to JDS and its partner entities who need to know it for a specific purpose linked to your case.
JDS’s partners are bound by data protection laws, while they also abide with JDS’s Data Protection Policy, so your personal data will remain protected and treated with confidentiality. JDS will not share your personal data with authorities of your country of origin and your personal data will not be disclosed to any third party unless with your explicit consent.
Storage of personal data
As a Japan based company, we will securely process your personal data in Japan. On January 23, 2019 the European Commission has adopted an adequacy decision on Japan, allowing personal data to flow freely between the two economies on the basis of strong protection guarantees.
JDS will retain your personal data for the period required to fulfill the purpose mentioned above. The specific retention period will be determined by taking into account the purpose for which the personal data is acquired and processed, the nature of the personal data, and the legal or business necessity for retaining the personal data.
Once this time period has expired, we will promptly delete personal data from our storage media.
Specific Rights
You should be aware you have specific rights with regard to your personal data:
Access: you have the right to request access to your personal data as recorded by JDS.
Correction and deletion: you have the right to correct or delete personal data that is inaccurate, incomplete, unnecessary or excessive, provided that you present proof relating to the inaccuracy or incompleteness.
Objection: you have the right to object to the processing of your personal data because of reasons related to your specific personal situation.
